John Mayer and Baseball ...

One more reason why I like John Mayer .... he narrates baseball games just like i would. Check him out on the video below ... he attended the Japanese league's season opener in the Tokyo Dome and brought home some footage. I love reading his blog .... he's quite the traveler and knows how to creatively document it for us in blogville. Thanks John .. ;)

Easter 2008 ::facts, pics & videos::

Hey Blogville ...
Sorry about the delay - but here's a quick FRC Easter 2008 recap in just a few facts, pics and videos. I must say it was a weekend to remember - God is awesome and at work.....

FACTS
  1. Total Services - 36
  2. Total Attendance -15700
  3. Total Baptisms - 479
  4. Total Invitation Responses - 2274+ (the totals are still coming in)

PICS

Pictured in the montage : (click to enlarge)
-Over 15,000 people attended one of our services at one of our campuses this weekend.
-We had a gospel choir at all of our campuses - some virtual - some live (I even got to sing in it once) Let me just say that you haven't done choir till you've done it gospel style ! Intense! Thanks HP for dragging half the staff on stage :)
-We had over 479 baptisms this weekend and hundreds showed up at the beach at 6:32 am for a celebration to remember ....amazing! (the pic is a screen shot from my mac - (low res) it was being broadcast live on our internet campus.
- Even our bathrooms rocked - we had soothing stress relieving "body works" cream everywhere with spa pebbles in every sink. Sick!
- Doral's green room was off the chain ... i might just move in there! ;)
- Two bunnies roamed around the entire weekend - i think one even got saved
- Everyone who came got a CD in their car introducing our new series "the BED" - check it at www.troyandsteph.com
- Finally - thousands asked God for a miracle this Easter and came forward! Troy hit a home run every time - simply powerful!

VIDEOS

Below are two of my favorite videos we produced for this weekend.

The first was our countdown video for the weekend - it displayed some our "lobby cams" and introduced our guests to our several campuses.

The second video was shown right before Troy came up and set the tone and context for his teaching on "miracles" - probably one of my favorites this year so far... (Fun Facts: 1. Troy actually used the same tombstone in the video live on stage at all our services -- 2. Contrary to popular belief ...we actually shot this video the day before it first aired ! Crazy! The team spent all day and night till it was just right! Mad props!

It was an unforgettable weekend ... but as i always like to say:

The Best is yet to come...

Cuarteto de Nos

Here's one of the coolest bands to come out of Uruguay: Cuarteto de Nos - I love their raw rock sound and their Spanish lyrical flow. I had heard their music way back in 2001 while in Brazil. They toured with one of my favorite Brazilian bands : Los Hermanos. - it wasn't till I recently saw this video that I was truly sold on them. Just downloaded their album on iTunes - good times music , great for driving (specially if you have a convertible and live by the beach). Note: the video is amazing - the typography and visual illustration of the song is superb - a must see.

Multitasking

I have found myself unconsciously multitasking every opportunity I get. It makes me feel so productive ... I'm not sure if its good or not , but here are some examples.

- Drive to work while listening to podcasts/audio books
- Drive back from work and make phone calls
(for an hour straight)
- Watch TV while reading blogs and browsing net
- Bathroom breaks with books and magazines
- Cardio workout while listening to new music
- Texting while driving too .. Marcy hates this one
- Practicing guitar while Marcy cooks
- Watch online videos while waiting on a render or download
- Waiting in line anywhere... replying to emails on iPhone
- Watching shows on HULU during lunch with coworkers
- Listening to online radio while working (pandora.com)
- Walking and chewing gum :)

Well ... maybe these things are pretty common after all. Any additional suggestions? Anyone in Blogville multitasking?

Think Better ...

Since THINKING is such a big part of our ethos (value system) at FRC - I've decided to share the article below which has helped me a bit with my thinking process. It is written by Ed Boyden in his Technology Review blog. I hope it will help you make the most of your brain - specially in an age of complexity and information overload.

Below are my top 5 "think better" tips from his top 10 list:

1. Synthesize new ideas constantly. Never read passively. Annotate, model, think, and synthesize while you read, even when you're reading what you conceive to be introductory stuff. That way, you will always aim towards understanding things at a resolution fine enough for you to be creative.

2. Learn how to learn (rapidly). One of the most important talents for the 21st century is the ability to learn almost anything instantly, so cultivate this talent. Be able to rapidly prototype ideas. Know how your brain works. (I often need a 20-minute power nap after loading a lot into my brain, followed by half a cup of coffee. Knowing how my brain operates enables me to use it well.)

3. Collaborate.

4. Document everything obsessively. If you don't record it, it may never have an impact on the world. Much of creativity is learning how to see things properly. Most profound scientific discoveries are surprises. But if you don't document and digest every observation and learn to trust your eyes, then you will not know when you have seen a surprise.

5. Keep it simple. If it looks like something hard to engineer, it probably is. If you can spend two days thinking of ways to make it 10 times simpler, do it. It will work better, be more reliable, and have a bigger impact on the world. And learn, if only to know what has failed before. Remember the old saying, "Six months in the lab can save an afternoon in the library."

Go ahead and read the full article ... and think better! ;)
