WWJD?

You may find the craziest stuff in the frigo bars of our church's offices. Below is a variety of water we are currently consuming here at FRC ... a little creepy I must say.

What would Jesus Drink ? Why ?

Celine Dion - Live in Las Vegas DVD

My wife and I watched - Celine Dion: A New Day (Live in Las Vegas) over the weekend... It was hands down amazing... I liked Celine before, but now I am a fan!

Here are a couple of reasons why the show and DVD were amazing:

-Celine's Songs - simply inspiring and moving
-Celine's charisma and stage presence
-Dragone produced the show (Cirque du Soleil)
-$10 million LED screen - Sick!
-$300 million dollar show! - Sicker!
-Celine & Sinatra Duet - ;)
-It was much more than a concert ... it was an experience.
-DVD bonus features were very engaging (all access pass, behind the scene secrets) Right up my alley...

If you get the chance, rent it or buy it - watch it in 5.1 surround sound. Amazing! The only thing I regret is not watching it live in Vegas ! Five years of sold out shows! 4000 seat auditorium , one of a kind, custom built to Celine and Dragone's specs...

A must see! - Heredes

Weekend Videos

Here's a look at some of the media we produced for this past weekend's service... send us your thoughts, suggestions and ideas...

1- We produced this video to be performed live at all our campuses via click track - what a great combo, it added energy and stunning visuals at the multi-sites! Looking forward to the next one... "In Your Freedom". Let me know if you'd like a full res version to be used at your church... we'd be more than glad to hook you up.

2-This was a simple, yet powerful video -- exemplifying the power of a story! We used it as part of Pr. Brian Vasil's teaching ... he did a wonderful job. Watch it here.

3- Short vision casting transition video - using an audio excerpt of Viva la Vida ;)

4- Short cheesy & fun video promoting service time changes and summer events

Stay tuned to our videos and subscribe to our Vimeo channel here. We'd love your feedback and ideas.

Band Quiz ...

I saw this online yesterday ... I won't link you there (cause you may cheat and get some answers) - but it's a pretty cool band quiz put out by Virgin Records. If you're confused -here are two answers to get you started:
  • 1) See the lady holding up the guns in the middle: QUEEN
  • 2)The pretty birdies flying up on the right: EAGLES

Have fun and let me know what you see... Marcy and I have gotten 14 so far ... anyone? Click on the photo to enlarge. Dont cheat ! I'll post some answers later ... let your brain muscles work! There are bands from the 50's and recent ones. No excuses....It is very creative ... so thinK!

CELIA

Marcy and I went to see CELIA last night at the Carnival Theater (now known as the Adrienne Arsht Center). I expected a Cuban cover band playing all of Celia's hits but was blown away by the seamless production. Apparently CELIA has recently been a hit in New York and is now down in Miami for a season. I did not know this! The acting, transitions, video usage, comedy and dancing took this off-Broadway show to a Broadway level. I did not know any history behind Celia's life .. but after attending - I feel like I'm an expert. Read more about her life and legacy here . Any who ... it was a fun night - those Cubans know how to salsa! We later got to hang out at an after party with the cast and friends courtesy of PILON and JP - they had it going on. Big shout out to Silvia and Chants ... and for Pilon - for keeping it cool. ;)

A Weekend w/ Pr. Troy

Here's a behind the scenes look at a weekend with our Pastor captured and edited by one of our volunteers here at Flamingo. I have the honor of sitting under his teaching from the first one (Saturdays @ 5) to the last one (Sundays @ 5) - he brings it every time. Thanks for leading at such high level and challenging us to reach our God potential.

Consistency is Key

Hey Blogville ...
Whether you're fully tattooed or abstain from the ink - I have truly enjoyed the conversation and dialogue on our previous post. Thanks for making this a place to connect, create and communicate - and for doing it in love ... or at least trying.
In addition to the comments ... I have received dozens of emails with questions, comments, and semi-threats. Thanks mom :(

Without being too long and preachy - here are my thoughts

CONSISTENCY IS KEY

  • 1) When we extract a verse out of context - we cause confusion and even division. Leviticus is one of those books written at a specific time for a specific audience with a specific purpose. If we are to live by the "book" {Leviticus} then consistency is key. That would mean that we'd also be bound by rules that would restrict shellfish and pork eating, hairstyles, wearing of clothes made from two different fabrics, even eating cheese on hamburgers. Consistency is key.
  • 2) The body as the temple - Here is an area where we totally fail at being consistent. And I include myself. In our current culture (secular & Christian) people modify their appearance for beauty in many ways such as clothing choice, makeup, plastic surgery, hair cutting and coloring, weight loss, body-building, and ear piercing. If we are consistent - then we would judge all those things in the same category as tattoos. And wait ... my favorite: We remember that the body is a temple when Tattoos come up - but we forget about the temple when we sit at the table and chug down a bucket of fried food and eat three pieces of cheesecake for dessert. If we're gonna guard the temple .. lets do it at the table as well. Consistency is key.

Anyway ... thanks for joining in the dialogue. Let posts like these make us better and not bitter ... for the record .. my "tattoo" was not real. It was drawn by my wife Marcy with a black and red sharpie and had no true meaning. Marcy and I have been dabbling with the idea of both getting inked and think it's artistically really cool. We're still not sure what or where ... so until then - we'll just wait.

The Wall Street Journal & Flamingo Road Church

The gang over at the Wall Street Journal spend several days at our Lima, Peru campus as well as our South Florida campuses preparing an article on multi-site churches and their expansion. Flamingo Road Church was featured as a leading church in this "new" form of church branding and growth. The article is titled "Inspired by Starbucks" - read it here.

Viva La Vida or Death to All his Friends

I must tell ya ... I just finished listening to the new coldplay album in its entirety. (listen here too if you'd like) I loved every bit of it. This will definitely be one of the albums I purchase digitally, physically and even grab an LP if available. It has so many anthems, and a song for each emotion and occasion. The sounds and lyrics are unique and inspirational. Can't wait for the tour. Even though some of their tour production got postponed... the South Florida date was confirmed and tickets will sell on June 21st.

I also just finished uploading all their new songs to my iPhone
(for those of you keeping track - I finally got them all since its already released in Japan) and emailed myself all their lyrics so I can listen and read along on my flight back home in the morning ... looking forward to it.

It's late ... Goodnight

Indianapolis

Some things I've learned while in Indianapolis ...
- Nascar is not a sport
- Tony Dungy is sort-of a big deal here
- People born in Indianapolis are Indians
- INDY 500 is the price for gas here ;)

On a more serious note ... Great town (specially downtown)...I had a blast with the gang while here. Looking forward to heading back home to the wife though.....and I also hope to see you this weekend at one of our services ... Pr. Troy is gonna bring it !! Seriously ... he's gearing up for a great Moods Weekend you won't wanna miss! Viva la Vida.

Djavan in Concert ...

Guess who we saw Friday night at the Carnival Center: Brazilian artist: Djavan... I was able to surprise Marcy with tickets and attend with some friends. It was a blast. These are some of the world's best musicians... seriously. Listening to thousands of Brazilians sing along was pretty unique .. I haven't seen or done that in a while. The best part was watching Marcy sing along in Portuguese too .... Linda! ;) Huge blog props to our bud Uribe for finding the tickets!

Happy Birthday Ethan!!

Today Ethan Martin was born .... he weighed 8 pounds and 12 ounces and was born playing the violin while singing Everlasting God - j/k (inside joke). I'll have some real pics soon - but here's a shot of his sonogram not too long ago (he was yawning - can you tell?) And below a digital portrait of what we expect the baby to look like! Cute huh?

Coldplay at the MTV Movie Awards - Viva La Vida

In case you missed it .... here is Coldplay 's first US performance of Viva La Vida at the MTV Movie Awards tonight. It was a creative performance - video intro with strings was awesome with great use of album instrumentation - Chris Martin was a little Shaky - (rumor has it he wants to stay away from his "stereotypical" falsetto - don't do it Chris!) ... and can I say confetti? I can't wait till June 5th! Toca Frio - gotta love em!
